Nurgle lord - More base coating

Hi there,

Did a bit more base coat work.  Mixed some green into the tin bitz base.  Probably not enough green but it's cool.  All good.

Another layer on the skin as well.  Happy so far :)

Nurgle Lord - basecoat

Evening,

work has finally started on my next model.

The Nurgle Lord... extremely popular model this - everyone seems to be painting it.

I have started with a basecoat of Gretchin green. 1:1 with water and doing a couple of layers. I am attempting to not make his skin green... Seems strange when my basecoat is green.

I do have a plan of sorts though.  As you see him below, the darkest areas are about as "greeny-dark" as he is going to get. I plan to highlight up through rotting flesh and bleached bone then use some red/purple/pink washes - just really thin ones - to pick things out.

I think this will be a trial and error job though and determined I am not going to allow it to turn into a time sink with millions of layers of colour.

He should end up being a very pallid rotting flesh colour with bruising around the skin and gory red details.

Probably going to go a more metallic - verdigris design rather than straight up green which some people do.  Like a scabby power armour.  I've always liked metallic paints.

A couple of pictures below. One of the basecoat in progress and the other is of my notes and colour choice.

I nearly went down the route of doing a much more human looking flesh but couldn't bring myself to do it.

Marneus Calgar, hair, metal, armour, leather

Hello,

Marneus Is getting very close to completion.

todays done list:

  • hair basecoat
  • armour highlighted and completed.
  • metal basecoated.
  • leather completed.
  • details made white.
to do:
  • skin highlights
  • gold highlights
  • make the black black then highlight.
  • highlight the green areas.
  • hair highlights.
  • eyepiece.
  • BASE (looking forward to this.)
Oh and I have got a High Elves Warmaster army. I count it as a fair bit over 1.000 points.

  • 3 units spearmen
  • 3 units archers
  • 1 unit chariots
  • 1 unit bolt throwers
  • silver helms
  • the other cavalry
  • general on dragon
  • general on giant eagle
  • general
  • wizard
  • hero
  • 10 casualty markers.
  • the rulebook
  • giant eagles...
think thats about it... and for 40 quid!!

I have started work on the spearmen... The previous owner has used a white base coat.... I don;t really like this but I dont seem to get any daylight hours to paint very often.

The compromise is to black wash the miniatures then paint.  It might end up working really well as it adds shading and depth but doesnt dull the colours too much.....

200TH POST!!! | Marneus Calgar... green/white details, blacking out etc...

Welcome to my 200th blog post. that's approximately 0.005 of a post per day for a couple of years lol.

It contains some more work on Marneus Calgar,

  • Skin wash - Ratskin flesh and reikland flesh shade are ideal for the skin. Probably the best colours I have used ever for skin... famous last words...
  • blacking out metal details... exciting stuff...... still makes the model look a bit sharper and more complete.
  • white details - hate doing these, quite a few layers of progressively thinned paint till it covers. :)
  • green details - couple of wreathes, one on his shoulder pad and one on is shin.
The wash has brought down the shine from the gold (thank God) I don't want to muck around with the nice matte finish too much if I can help it.

Anyway coming together nicely I just cant wait to get the armour and cloak highlighted then we will really be cooking with gas. Should be some time for some painting as well.

Oh and a package arrived... I think it is my massive basing materials pack! Wait 'till you see the state of this! bargain!

Marneus Calgar basecoats

Hello again,

Another update tonight - Some basecoat work on Marneus.  I think I have linked this before but you can find some background on this character here: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Marneus_Calgar

I used a scab red and black mix for the cloak and snakebite leather for the gold details (usual stuff) Oh I also added a dark blue wash (drakenhof nightshade they call it these days) on the blue power armour.

I reckon a quick dab with basecoat then a bit more ink should sort out any imperfections where the snakebite meets the armour.  I also need another layer of snakebite, I think my latest paint thinner mix is a tad heavy on drying retarder.... but no matter...

I also erm... bought a couple of new things.... still celebrating my new job [insert excuse here]

A new tyranid model.... and more dwarves, Super excited about the dwarves and I just got a despatch notice for them a short while ago!

This mac rocks.... take pictures with iPhone.... wait a few secs, go on to the mac.... import pictures from photo stream on the mac and then upload to blogger.... ace! can also share the pictures to the chat app so I can imessage my girlfriend my progress and pretend she cares!!
