Skink - Feather cloak basecoats

Woohoo, the bit I was looking forward to!

Picked some nice basecoats to wash over then do something with. I was going to do the usual start dark and work up but the texture in the leaves is too intricate for that. Essentially doing a base - wash - drybrush job.

Skink - Metal

Finished the metal. It is 50/50 scorched brown-shining gold then gold, then gold/mythril silver.

Cheeky gryphone wash as well, easiest big of the mini so far! :P

Forgot to take a pic at basecoat stage, shining gold and brown makes a cool mix.

Skink - Inside of cloak

Done the inside of the cloak and tidied up around the skin.

Might just go over some bits of the inside of the cloak tomorrow, overall very good though. happy. Going for the brown leaf kinda look......

Njal Base Shot

Just one picture :)

Lizardmen Skink Priest - Skin - glaze/highlight.

Hello there,

Little bit of a skull white highlight here and there, and also an asurmen blue glaze, well a couple really. Trying to match the consistency of say.... blueberry squash?

takes away the chalkyness, blues the highlights and darkens the shadows nicely.

Couple o' pics

Lizardmen Skink Priest Skin almost complete

(worth clicking this post, lots of pics inside) - assuming you are on standard magazine view and are looking at new look blogger.........

Put in a couple of hours work. Well I was fair enjoying listening to http://thehistoryofrome.typepad.com/ (free 150+ episodes on itunes... check it out)

Anyway quite a bit of progress for me. I'm liking the overall tone, I think the only thing i need to do is probably pure white highlights then a really watered down blue glaze to bring the layers together a bit more.

I'm typing this before I have looked at the pictures so really not sure if they will show any difference stage to stage! enjoy! Bit of a challenge all this skin!

(edit - actually they aint too bad.)

do I glaze or not... hrm... too late tonight to decide.... looking at my rubbish pics (lights way too light, darks way too dark) i'd say yes but in proper light he looks way cool, bit paler than I have seen elsewhere. liking it though!

must remind myself not to slap on GW primary colour inks without watering down first.

Lizardmen Skink Priest wash/layering

Did some more skink work today, Asurmen blue wash, then started layering on the basecoat colour again.

Next stage is just to start switching in more ice blue and ill probably need to glaze him with the asurmen blue watered way down just to reduce the chalkyness a bit....

need to cut into that shading a bit, to be honest I think the asurmen is too dark for a wash... shoulda watered it down!

Happy so far! :)

Skink Basecoat Pt2

Same deal as my other models. I have thinned down the paint quite a bit more and added a second coat. Its more like 3/4 as the paint dries so quickly...

Everything always looks so dire at this stage! Especially with the horrible photography. It looks like humbrol paint under that light, still important to get a solid basecoat I think.

Bonus picture of Njal completed base. It is my second attempt at snow and is much better.

Paint base skull white, add a thick layer of PVA mixed with white paint (turns into a toothpaste type consistency) then drop some flock on it.

Skink Base Coat

Hello there,

Made a small start on the Skink. First basecoat layer. 50/50 Ice Blue and Hawk Turquoise. It is the GW standard blue skink skin, i'll use that as a start and see where it takes me.

Njal - Completed

Well, not based yet.. but whatever!

In attempt to make his crow not look like a lump of stone I did a dull orangy beak and picked out the feet. There is also some cool bionic detailing on him (eye etc...)

As well as the grey highlighting and blue/bleck washes i used some of the dull orange on the feathers just to give some more depth..... Knew that bird was going to be the hard bit. I will probably do another devlan or even a black wash on the feet, I should have used the beak mix on the feet...grrrr.

The staff as well I am not that happy with but it does look OK.

Liquid Green Stuff and Very nearly the end of Njal

Did some work on Njal's staff and his pet bird last night. I am in "just get the damn thing finished you tosser" mode.

I am desperate to paint my Skink Priest like a Parrot!!

Some close ups of the liquid green stuff, it has actually worked rather well around the neck with another layer or two required in that join behind his head.

The stuff definitely benefits from being watered down slightly, or even just a damp brush (along with everything citadel I suppose)

Yes I know the daemon is going to take 5 years to paint at my current speed!

Really not sure about that raven, had a go, highlights of grey then blue/black wash, will see how it goes.

New Stuff

Some pics of assembled miniatures I bought. Going to try some filling behind the daemons head... bit of a gap there!

Monday, 7 November 2011

Almost back.

About 10 days and I should be painting again.

To Celebrate I am buying a Dark Elf Dreadlord on a Cold One as well as a Nurgle Daemon Prince. Also got some of that liquid green stuff, cos I felt like it!

Spotted a nifty little article that has a good technique for weathering as well as adding in "verdigris" I've seen it many times but now I know what it is called.

Have to finish Njal first though....
