Hello everyone, with the new job and the time of year i'm not finding time to do anything at the minute so I'm suspending updates for a while. Not really sure how long but it will probably be in the new year.
cheers.!!!

Marneus Calgar
I have been somewhat busy over the last week or so with buying cars and such, also the new job coming up so I have been struggling with getting some painting done.
I grabbed a spare hour today to get started on Marneus Calgar - The main man of the ultramarines chapter.
I think he will end up being a slightly moodier blue than the really old school stuff but trying to keep away from the more purple finish of the newer Eavy Metal paint jobs.
On the subject of Eavy Metal I noticed they have a new paints set out for Christmas this year with a selection of paints that are a lot lighter than the normal range and meant to be for edge highlighting. A total gimmick no doubt but I am not sure I will be able to resist these when they come out!
Snapped quite a few shots this time as my lighting setup is making the blue a lot more "sky blue" than it really is, so I got a few more pics from a greater distance and with my lamp turned away. You can really tell that under more intense light it looks more like old style ultramarines blue than the quite dark blue which is actually is:

Game of thrones base completed and a new paint thinner
Elo there,
second post on my mac - exciting!
I have finished work on the game of thrones base, using quite a bit of birch seed leaves, brownish flock, and a teeny tiny flower/bedding plant weird thing which I think is amazing!
Also made up a new thinner batch, 50% water, 50% flow improver and 10% slow dry... I think that I have overdone it on the slow dry, possibly not though, it is a total pain in the backside to get the slow dry to mix with the water/flow improver as the flow improver is kinda soapy and the slow dry is gloopy!

First Heresy miniatures purchase and warhammer giant!
Hello there,
Just a post showing my latest purchases.
I finally stumped up for the latest version of heresy's most famous miniature "big boris" he is gorgeous, really nice cast with very few mould lines and the ones that are present are very subtle. Makes me wish I ordered him ages ago.
top notch service from Andy @ heresy as well.
Decided to celebrate leaving the old job by buying something totally random and I decided on the warhammer giant.
Amazing kit... I have taken some close up pictures of the sprues for everyone. As you can see there is a great deal of extra stuff there!!
Sorry about the order of the pictures, it must work slightly differently on a mac... yes I have binned my PC, well I am selling it and going full steam ahead on mac hardware only!!
hopefully the next update will be one with some painting in it!!!

Marneus Calgar base/colour choice
Sorted out his base, pretty proud of it!
I chopped off the slotta from his feet. Used milliput / super glue to stick down a couple of bits of slate. Then glued his feet back on to the slate with super glue and a tiny blob of milliput.
The plan is to make it blue ice/snow. I will use my crushed glass mixed with water effects to get a snow look :)
I have gone with GW recommended ultramarines colours. I will end up putting my own spin on it I think.

Marneus Calgar Notes
http://taleofpainters.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/tutorial-painting-ultramarines-stahly.html
Asurmen blue + badab black wash
- Basecoat is a 50:50 mixture of Chaos black and regal blue
- Armor color is a 50:50 mixture of regal blue and ultramarines blue
- First highlight with pure ultramarine blue (thinned down with water)
- second highlight is a 50:50 mixture of ultramarines blue and space wolves grey
The result is a "flowing" color progress: chaos black<-> regal blue -> regal blue<->ultramarines blue->ultramarines blues->ultramarines blue<->space wovles grey.
Game of Thrones Base + next project.
I have applied the washes as mentioned in the last post to the base. I drybrushed all of the stone up through dheneb stone and white. (same with the urn) The wood had some more of the brown colour with a bit of snakebite leather on top before a pure devlan mud wash.
next project will be marneus calgar, he narrowly beat out the nurgle champ!
Just in case you did not know who he is Marneus Augustus Calgar
TL:DR (hard as ****)
